Ken is an educator and school and Kāhui Ako leader with over 23 years teaching and leading experience in schools across Northland and Auckland. Prior to working in schools, Ken was an early childhood educator working in centres for a number of years. Ken’s most recent leadership role was Lead Principal for the Mid Bays Kāhui Ako: New Zealand’s largest community of learning. His strengths include effective communication, being an active listener, building relational trust, developing effective teams, appraisal, coaching and mentoring. Ken’s focus areas are leadership development, strategic planning, principal and middle leader appraisals, communities of learning, mentoring principals, and change leadership. Ken works seamlessly through all areas/levels of school organisations, including Early Childhood Education.
One of Ken’s greatest strengths is his ability to create positive relationships. These relationships develop mutual trust and respect, which enables an environment of high challenge and innovation to flourish. Ken supports others to realise their potential to lead. He has used these skills to lead his own schools, and more recently, influencing and developing leaders within Kāhui Ako. Ken reads widely, keeping up to date with the latest trends and developments in education and has presented at conferences such as the New Zealand School Leadership Forum.
